Condatis: line follower

Introduction:

Condatis is a simple line follower competition where the robots have to follow a White line on a black background.

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Build an autonomous robot that can follow a non uniform White line on a black background.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  1) The time that each robot takes to traverse the track without deviating from the original       track.

  2) Algorithm used in designing the robot

  3) Hardware used (microcontrollers, sensors, motors etc).

  4) Mechanical design.

ARENA SPECIFICATIONS :

  1) The arena is rectangular in shape made of plywood. Arena is of size 61\2ft x 61\2ft

  2) The background is black with a 3cm wide white line having several turns and corners.

  3) The line is subject to an increase in width at a few points on the tracks

  4) BENDS- Bends are the smooth turns like an ‘S’ bend or ‘U’ bend which has a minimum turning radius of 10cms.

  5) CORNERS- Corners are the sharp turns like an ‘L’ with turning angle of 90 deg. There will be sharp acute turns like a V bend.

  6) The track will be continuous at all points and at no point would the robot encounter a fork or an 8 intersection.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS :

  1) Robot size should not exceed 20 cm (length)* 20 cm (width).

  2) Power Supply: One can use their own batteries or external power supply.

  3) 220v 50Hz AC mains will be provided. Participants however are expected to have    adapters and extension cords of minimum 5 m.

GENERAL RULES ABOUT THE COMPETITION:

  1) Any physical damage to the arena will be viewed seriously and shall automatically lead to disqualification.

  2) Maximum 4 members per team.

  3) Ready made Lego kits are not entertained.

  4) Each team will be given only three restarts if their bots go off track. Time count for that team will also be reset.

  5) Participants cannot handle the bot during the run. Any such manual handling will be taken as a reset and appropriate procedures followed.
